One of the Labor Day events in San Diego that is fun for the whole family is the US Sand Sculpting Challenge and Dimensional Art Exposition. Downtown at the B Street Cruise Ship Terminal Pier, this event is taking place with visitors and sculptors from all around the world. There will be 300 tons of sand brought to B Street for the sand sculpting extravaganza. It is taking place from September 4 to 7. This is one of the most creative events in San Diego. Sculptures are 10 tons of sand each. Come see some of the most astounding art around. There will also be live bands, rides, a sand box for kids, gourmet food trucks as well as ships and cannon battles. Ticket prices range from $5 to $55. It is from 9 am to 7 pm and on Saturday, it is from 9 am to 9 pm.
Another fun-filled weekend event is the Festival of Sail. This is one of the many 4-day Labor Day events in San Diego with many sites to see. This is the largest Tall Ship festival on the west coast. At the Maritime Museum of San Diego on the North Embarcadero, a nautical theme park will come to life. Families can delight in visting ships and crews, a petting zoo, doing craft activities, face paintings, cannon battles, live music and a 30-minute bay cruise. Kids can get a photo with Captain Sunny and pirates. There will also be a beer garden, food trucks and various vendors. This lovely festival takes place from Friday 12:30 pm to 5 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 7 pm, September 5 to 7. Tickets range in price from $5 to $7 for 1-day admission.
If you’re looking to get away, but not go too far, the Julian Grape Stomp Festa is a great festive event. Labor Day events in San Diego are an amazing cultural experience. At the Menghini Winery they celebrate the harvest of grapes with a real olde-world grape stomp and festa. Kids can play games, partake in contests, win prizes, play mini golf and much more. Roman Holiday will be playing Italian music. There will food and craft vendors, bocce ball tournaments, grape stomping, wine tastings, dancing and even a Jumbo Jump. This is a scenic, good time. Tickets are $5 to $15 and the event goes from 11 am to 7 pm on September 5th.
